Snapshot

March 19, 2020

A pregnant woman,
wearing a long white dress,
a translucent, filmy overskirt waving in the breeze,
stands on the railroad tracks.

A man squats next to her and
leans in when the photographer says,
kiss her belly.

On his shoulders, a little girl,
who also leans in,
sharing a kiss with the woman.

An engagement photo?
A pregnancy announcement?
A family photo before there are four?

Off in the distance,
the railroad tracks lined with trees
curve out of sight.

I could draw this if I could draw. How succinct and vivid are these images. Thanks for this moment of promise.
