Mad Lib Report Cards

March 18, 2024

It’s report card time over here in my neck of the woods. Is it for any of you? If you’re like me, you want to individualize your comments, making them personalized and different for each student, but you also don’t want to spend the entire weekend writing them.

Enter Comments Mad Libs. Grab a pen and a partner to help you fill in the prompts, then read the comments aloud or paste them into the appropriate report card.

(child’s name) continues to be a delight in class! S/he is (positive adjective), (positive adjective) , and (positive adjective). This marking period they have been working on finding a balance between socializing and focusing on learning goals. They continue to benefit from adult help in attending to this balance. They have also been developing their repertoire of self-regulation strategies for handing frustration. This is a skill we will continue practicing for the remainder of the year.

In math, students have been working on (math concept) and (math concept).  (child’s name) has been showing (adjective on the continuum between terrible and wonderful) progress on these skills. They have also shown progress in learning their math facts. This is an important skill to continue practicing!

So far this year in reading s/he has mostly read (genre), but has shown (adverb on the continuum between limited and substantial) comfort with reading texts in other genres, particularly (genre). Please help (child’s name) make time for reading every day; this is an important habit to develop!

In writing, (child’s name) has been mainly using class time to (verb on the continuum between going to the bathroom and writing a complete novel), as the class works on the unit of (genre). S/he shows strengths in the areas of (writing skill) and (writing skill). We will continue working on expanding their repertoire of elaboration strategies in the coming marking period.

In science and social studies students have been working on (overarching science topic) and (overarching social studies topic). (child’s name) is showing nice engagement and is working to build their vocabulary and conceptual understanding.

I look forward to working with (child’s name) in the coming marking period to help them continue growing into the (positive adjective) leader I know they can be.

And voila! Report cards are done! No need to resort to cleaning the bathroom to procrastinate or holding chocolate as an incentive to get just one more written.

You’re welcome.

Obsessed with this! Also love the humor throughout. These are very similar to the way I do mine, but even more fun. Definitely saving this post!
I love the balancing socializing and focusing on academic topics goal as one for all — you wouldn’t happen to be an upper elementary teacher, would you? 😂
